@wolf480pl yeah but maybe the insects hunting dude was right, the longer evenings (esp in a world where many/most work 9-5) is a better call

@benjojo or we could all agree to work 7-3 like my parents did. And like, yeah, shifting the timezone is easier than getting everyone to change their opening hours and such. But what if it turns out that a couple decades after we shift the timezone, everyone's working hours will slowly creep towards 10-6 or 11-7? And then we try to fix that by shifting the timezone again, and the opening hours shift again, and we end up in this ridiculous cycle of time of day becoming meaningless?

@benjojo you sure it isn't linked to staying up late, then going to bed at the last moment before it starts getting bright, then waking up in time to go to work?

@nbailey I think you mis-read my post, I do too, but it's nice when your local time is the same as UTC... as the UK now is because it's no longer on DST

@benjojo Ha, yep, didn't comprehend correctly. I'm in EST so my timestamps are always 4-5 hours off UTC...

@benjojo i actually don't understand this - surely it's easier for people to work 8-4 or 10-6 instead of messing around with the very definition of time? (and society already accepted this! most offices workers i know have some form of flexitime in their workplace, even those working in government or healthcare.)

@sa I assume that the valid of 9-5 or 10-6 is the fact that other people work those times, since a lot of work is dealing with other people at work

@benjojo be the change you want in the world. Once I can’t take my kid to and from school anymore, I might start working 8-5 all the time, or maybe shift even earlier. It’d work from home, so at least I don’t have to drive home after dark anymore.
