It's wild to me that some reasonably loud speakers can be just 8 watts, puts a Single Board Computer into perceptive, and also my 2kw kettle

The output of a PDU interface, saying that the speaker port is using 8W of power at 0.56 Power factor

@holsta nope, it's the PDU's WebUI.

It's a Raritan PX3-5892, Not really home grade kit, but this one fell into my hands and has instantly converted me away from anything APC. The software has clearly been built by someone who has used a PDU before

@benjojo @holsta I am glad to hear there are better things on the market than APC. Unfortunately APC is what I have to work with.

@m @holsta Honestly it's night and day, I didn't think I would stan a PDU/ATS/etc provider, but they really are so so so much nicer, and sometimes even comparable price

I would not trust a pdu to catch transient spikes and thus peak power of any audio equipment, transients is what they do

@vaelen Sure, the peak power may not be counted, but given most of the power is in low bass frequencies (at least for bassline style music) I suspect the PDU is close enough

(PF being 0.5 to 0.6 is I guess enough of a hint)

@vaelen FWIW, there are rack PDU's out there that are 100% up to that task, here is a screen grab from one (I really should buy a few of these, they are peak interesting stats generators

@benjojo power is a strange thing to comprehend. I got into radio recently and spoke to someone in Croatia from England using 1 watt of power. Heating water takes a HUGE amount of power.
