Am I getting old (old man yells at cloud etc) or is the Google Mail app on android switching to by default treating email like SMS insane??? Why does replying to email in any thing more than a yes/no sentence take 3 taps! Auto updates are such a liability with google products

@benjojo Interesting, when an email is "unsubscribable", the Unsubscribe button appears instead of the Reply button. For all other emails, the Reply button still appears and you can use that instead of the chat box below. I don't see an option to disable this feature.

@benjojo I might be one of the few people who doesn't mind this β although the full reply button is still there for non-mailing-list messages (i.e. those which don't have Unsubscribe), at least on by build β but I've never liked the idea that instant-delivery email /has to/ be on the same level of formality as stereotypical written letters; and frankly people have been using email like texts for a long while anyway (even in contexts when they maybe shouldn't). Past the 2nd reply it seems to happen both for mail from students who use Gmail and from ancient coworkers who use Outlook on PCs alike. So maybe email will turn out to be the chat app that Google has been repeatedly failing to build lol (Though Gmail has been slowly encouraging it on the web version for many years, ever since the "G+" redesign brought in those little popup compose tabs to make it seem less formal.)

@alice @benjojo the Outlook UI is totally different. Yes it has a single line βReplyβ text box under the email, but as soon as you tap in the box it immediately expands out so you have a normal multiple line email body to type into. Not the same as this at all. But Outlook has many other UI/UX problems π
