Why does nobody make a cheap usb4 to SFP+ adapter? All of the components are cheaply available, there are other devices with similar components available cheaply, but not this. Why? Why can I get a media converter and a twisted pair 10G USB NIC for less than half? The thing I want is basically those two combined with parts removed!
@marlies USB4 to PCIe is still suprisingly expensive, then one needs PD circuitry to get 15W out of the port at least to drive the NIC etc. So this quickly adds up to the BOM.
For all the lower speeds there is just one fully intergrates chip avaible
@erikk but they make cheap usb4 to 10GbE dongles, those are what I want but leave out the PHY and give me an sfp slot instead
@marlies I have not yet seen cheap ones around, link?
@marlies I have a 1G SFP USB adapter and inside it's a 1G base-T with a build in media converter, it is jank-tastic but mostly works. I'm not sure it would translate well into 10G though
