While searching for PC cases for a new NAS, I have found the ideal "youtube producer/editor" case, the "GameMax Luxury G51x Silentium PC" appears to let you just shove a bare 3.5" drive directly on the top of the machine. Ideal for those who have their raw footage archive as just bare 3.5" drives on a shelf

@benjojo This reminds me of the pre-2010 Medion PC cases, where you also could dock an e-SATA drive with their enclosure on top

@domi remember if you have enough optical amplification on your circuits your dust caps can be rebranded as "beam dump"s

@benjojo genuinely would have killed someone for this in my tech support days. I used to manage with USB-IDE/SATA converters for convenience, but 10+ years ago when I was still in that world they were kind of shit, but slightly less shit than "yeah, I guess I'll rip my own PC apart again today for this latest dead drive".

@benjojo We unironically like and want servers where you can put bare drives in and out of front slots (covers optional), and don't need carriers. But our usage is for backup servers, because at our size HDDs are cheaper than tape drives + tape robots + tapes (and have been for years).

@benjojo I have a discontinued Rosewill case, the BLACKHAWK, that has this feature holding my desktop, it’s fairly handy but I have had issues with some SSDs not working in it.
