I upgraded my desk PDU from a old 2005 APC one to a per port metered Raritan PX3-5892, and it's night and day. (It also comes with a built in Prometheus exporter!!!)

I also now cannot stop staring at the power consumption of each power port, you can see the POST of my desktop starting the first screen (after a long POST, it's a server motherboard) and then when Ubuntu starts the 2nd screen turns on.

You can even see my phone charging and throttling back the charge current over time.

Dangerous metrics

@benjojo eh you got a 2k PDU dor 80.... that is quite a deal and a great idea.

But yes, might be the best wat to go to use a single strip instead of the ... 5 or so strips currently mounted to the bottom of my desk (long live tie wraps and other tricks).

Definitely need to acquire some per-port monitoring soon though, as electricity does not cost nothing either. Having shelly PM in most sockets does give a decent overview where the biggest abuses are fortunately.

Also power factor metering, Not surprised that my desktop and my HP NAS has the best power factor (since they are server power supplies, and so have to care about PF). However very amused that my Lenovo USB-C Dock/Charger has a PF of 0.01 without anything connected
