Urgh. Fine. Firefox on the desktop it is.

@benjojo eeeesh. If you’re switching to Firefox anyway you might also want to try #Zen? I was always interested in Arc but didn’t want to use #AnotherChromiumBrowser so was pleasantly surprised when I gave Zen a go.

@mattjbones I've been using Firefox on my laptop for a while (mostly to ensure that I "automatically" test my company's offering on Chrome and Firefox at the same time), and it's fine. I'm not really interested in the tiny browser forks, it's kinda like distro hopping: I'm totally game for other people to do it, but I am just not that kind of person who wants to constantly move from thing to thing (also I have general concerns over security update schedules with these many browser forks)

@benjojo I got that this morning on the work laptop - if you dig through enough menus you can turn it back on again. Convincing a big security-says-no company to switch browser will be impossible tho, I am envious of your freedom

@AlexSW101 my experience with "dig through enough menus you can turn it back on again" on chrome is it eventually you'll be disappointed anyway, all that you are doing is offsetting the disappointment by a few months. The easiest example is how you can no longer turn off the "browsing journeys" feature, i had that stuff turned off because it was extremely annoying and now i have no choice but to deal with it. Well actually I do have a choice, just choose not to use chrome :P

@AlexSW101 @benjojo if you click the tree dots there’s a keep for now and a yes I really meant keep for now option. I agree that for now may be a short runway. But it meant that I could continue working as I was and make finding options a problem for later this week.

@drscriptt @AlexSW101 my browser did not give me that option, it just permanently disabled access to those extensions. Annoying that I can't even get the settings out of them so I can use the same settings with Firefox

@benjojo There is uBlock Origin Lite which tries to do the best with Manifest v3. Not sure if that’s enough for you but it might be worth a shot.

@benjojo The question now is how long can Chrome last security-advisory-wise while still being more secure than Firefox :)
