@benjojo these may not be big but if you have pet antennae and they're a flight risk, you could put them in a tank https://www.flickr.com/photos/18378305@N00/38069265702

@benjojo the dishes on Sky Studios usually catch my eye coming into London on the M4 https://maps.app.goo.gl/4QL9MhRcqKAu7wG46

@alex ooh yeah I've spotted those as well on my way to Slough, and I would bet those are still in regular use

@benjojo We had these at my last work place 18 m in diameter, huge bois indeed, used to control sattelites and so on, huge heating elements inside to keep them free from snow as well

There is something super aesthetic to me about big ol' broadcast dishes on top of buildings. Everything is now either tiny phased array panels (like starlink etc) or the services are just delivered via cables in the ground Dishes on top of buildings just feel like the 2000's future infrastructure that got replaced with something more silent and out of mind

Another example, this dish must be huge! and it's mounted on the top of a skyscraper! So pretty, My bet is that it is not used anymore :(

@benjojo I suspect there's a TV station associated with this - those two smaller dishes on panning mounts are probably used for microwave live shots.

@vxo Yeah you are probably right, if you squint you can see a bunch of FM/DAB tx antennas on the same tower

@benjojo this thing is majestic. I like how the outline creates a polygon instead of a perfect circle. I once modeled a radiotelescope in blender because the big dish aesthetics.
