Upsides of fediverse: [x] Software choice Downside of fediverse: [x] Software choice I run Honk ( software that is currently only reachable by the internet archive https://web.archive.org/web/20220924163856/https://humungus.tedunangst.com/r/honk ) The upside to honk is it's amusing and compact code base, the downside to honk is it's amusing code base. To help myself and promote the wonders, have this handy meme to help you understand how honk differs from the competition

I have a internal fork of honk, that has a jumbo 600+ line diff that attempts to make sense of the all of the names in the codebase. Here is just an example of the wonders of the honk codebase.

@eta oh don't worry, junk.Junk is just a string map interface, it's so you can decode any junk, obviously! (without decoding it to a struct)

@alarig I bet it's a markdown thing. But I bet there was one now?
Assuming there was not just a line break.

I have not had that problem. Though I did have to alter some of Honk's code to expose a "server" user more. Otherwise some instances would not like me.

I think honk was the most enjoyable code base I've read in years, Every symbol I jumped into was a gift that kept going! Thanks @tedu

@andyd idk... honk is just a single binary, and two sqlite databases. obvs you have to compile it, but other than that it's pretty run and play... I mostly just spent the time to add features that I value (like avatars) back in, and while I was at it. make the codebase a little more readable to me ( a mere mortal ) Regardless, it's not a competition over who has the best fediverse software... because they are all horrifying by the looks of it ;)
