Turns out, markdown is seemingly just a nice thing that honk and other fancy clients do, GtS does not support edits, or actually quite a lot of things, and if you slip up with any of this mastodon will just forever forget about a post.

@erincandescent the problem is i don't want to go and run something absolutely massive, not only from a resource consumption point of view (and also the a burden on backups), but also something like mastodon or Akkoma, or whatever just has those sort of code scale vibe to be suggest a "patch in the next 2 hours or you will die" style problem

honest to god, I might be about to make an enterprise honk instance (and write the code to transparently migrate from GtS -> Honk).

At least honk can be forced to do everything without too many complaints
