It's cold again (In the UK), this is good, but it has made me think of a innovation I want... So those CPU AIO/Water cooling rigs with radiators? I want a actual radiator sized one! Why can't my EYPC workstation be put to work warming my feet this time of year

@nick_ @benjojo reminds me of the computer built by IBM and ETH Zurich that ran so hot its cooling system was plumbed into the building’s hot water system https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquasar

@fanf Yeah it's more and more common these days, I dont think they are ever plumbed directly in, since the outlet water is rarely hot enough, I would _assume_ the heat loop is exchanged and then pumped into the input of a heat pump for way better efficiency

@benjojo why would you need the radiator ? Any heat the workstation generates will end up in the room, radiator or not.

@andynormancx I'd rather it warm my feet in a more direct way than trying to warm up a reasonably large bedroom/home office

@benjojo Could get a small section of the mesh with built in piping you get for underfloor heating installations, then put a carpet or something over it. Run the loop trough that first and then into the original radiators for any excess it couldn’t transfer… free feet warming! 😋

@marcoslater I'm gonna need a bigger computer to make that viable! I did a back of the envelope guess at what the kW output of my mums underfloor heating loop was and "holy shit"

@benjojo Tbh not enough heat output qwq, altho we at work get the water from the chillers and feed it to a water/water heatpump to boost it to radiator sutable water

@benjojo The total max TDP is your theoretical maximum heat output. Even an EPYC is going to draw a fraction of a small space heater from that perspective.

@benjojo
So. There's no reason you actually couldn't. I don't recall seeing any lately, but I havent been looking for it; but 'bout a decade ago pretty much every mid to high end PC case had grommets or at least punchouts at the back of the case for running tubing to an external rad. Probably pump too since you're definitely gonna want a much heavier duty one than the normal pumps. Anyway, the fittings for pc watercooling are general standards you'll find for everything else like automotive.

Assuming you've got a few hundred watts there, it wont heat a room well, but should your feet.
