@millie easily 15+ years in the UK, The payload data is encrypted with your passport number IIRC, so it's not just a "copy in someone's pocket" job

@benjojo but how can they sell a database for the highest price (their business model) if they can't get you to do the legwork of proving that the data is clean and not garbage? do you not care about lil' LinkedIn and their troubles? so insensitive!

@benjojo This shocked me at first, but it's an interesting move if they're looking to combat job application fraud and impersonation that I've heard about in the past couple years. I can't be sure this is related, of course.

@benjojo Interesting encapsulation of some social network differences. Mastodon verify my URLs by me adding some meta tags into a page (not got round to doing yet), LinkedIn want to verify my identify by scanning the biometric chip on my passport! What a vast overreach. I guess I might do that if the UK gov. asked, but not anyone else.
