I was annoyed that the bank my biz uses is increasing prices by 80%, and then I looked at NatWest and see that they charge at least £0.35 to do anything (receiving money, cash, paying something on card, really, the whole lot!) and now I am somewhat less upset

@k I don't bank with NatWest! But quite a lot in the UK do, and somehow they are not even considered the worst

@benjojo to be fair you'd have to do quite a lot of payments a month to equal the monzo business monthly price it does sound very similar to cloud platforms though. how many Class C API Actions are involved in moving money

@eta Yeah but also I guess that option doesn't look great for other reasons It's annoying, but honestly whatever, I burn far more money via stripe than the bank fees so it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things

@benjojo interesting to see Metro so far up there - sure they’re pretty good, however they really annoyed me when they decided that rather than supporting open banking APIs, they would rather offer a “modified customer interface” - which FreeAgent (what I was using at the time for bookkeeping) refused to support because they said it wasn’t useful enough

@mich181189 to be fair, having been on the bank side of this subject, the open banking APIs do leave a lot to be desired if you want to offer anything even slightly abnormal to generic banking service. But yeah, I currently use freeagent with monzo, and I guess it's good enough to just eat the cost for now, if it hikes again I'll look elsewhere

@mich181189 @benjojo I still haven't forgiven Metro Bank for this. I'm surprised they've done as well as they have with that attitude.

@benjojo I use Santander for business. They have virtually no charges except for a £12.50 a month fee. Every year they refund (cashback?) £125, I don't know why exactly, but I've never really considered changing because it's so cheap.
