@mxk @max yes, if Deutsche Telekom ist mentioned and peering, then Meta is most likely on the right side here.
Telekom some how acts like a Tier 1 network operator, but is "only" an ordinary ISP.
There is people that can explain it better, but basically as far as I understand they somehow act like this and it feels mostly like extortion.
@utzer @mxk Well they don't act like a true Tier 1 in terms of upgrading ports and charging market rates for transit.
@max ah no, it is more like that they want to be paid like Tier 1 I mean.
@mxk
Another interesting question is, which alternative route will not be exhausted? What impact will this have on other parts of the German internet? I assume the network traffic caused by META customers in the DTAG network must be enormous and thus it will have some impact.
@utzer @mxk Their pricing is 10x+ of other Tier 1 at this point and they are preventing competition with other Tier 1 by congesting the peerings by enforcing a traffic ratio that does not align with their products to eyeballs: https://www.peeringdb.com/net/196
@max @mxk the last time when they forced Hetzner into the expensive peering there was also some Telia peering/link congested by that bullshit. At least I remember it like that.
@utzer @mxk Hetzner used Telia, NTT, GTT and TATA afaik.
@max @utzer IIRC they use CoreBackBone (like many others) to get mostly functional access to DTAG
