EMF-IX Returns

EMF-IX, the #emfcamp / #emfcamp2026 internet exchange will be returning for EMF 2026.

Complete with our best switch yet (the "no cost spared" Juniper LAN) this will be the best EMF-IX yet, run a personal network or similar? Reserve your (in person) port today: https://emf-ix.benjojo.co.uk/

This year the EMF Camp network itself will be peering on the exchange as well!

A photo of a flight case with some network kit in it, and some small computers balenced on top, the text says "EMF-IX 2026 is back"

@benjojo @xssfox Done right, Ethernet is great. A380 and B787 avionics are Ethernet based with strict traffic management and redundant paths. PRP and HSR provide great resilience for industrial applications.

But geez, when you have Muppets that have just rolled their RS485 design to Ethernet with no thought it's very very bad. LAN doesn't work? Disable the firewall. Still doesn't work? Turn the router into a switch. Yeah. I quit that job.

@sam I'll be honest with you here, this is probably not the best way to be introduced into internet carrier networking :)

If you're interested in the subject in general than there are plenty of resources around, I would personally recommend to get started first with dn42.dev so you can get a basic grip on inter-network BGP (and it's totally fine to stop there!), and if you want to take that further (assuming you have a use case for running a AS/IP space) you can find a RIPE ASN sponsor and the relevant providers to rent you servers with BGP capabilities and IP space.
