@benjojo or possibly even just normal competition regulations. There’s been a lot of consolidation allowed through mergers and acquisitions which has given a handful of very large companies significant market power and generally they’re the ones charging ludicrous cross connects fees.
I’d like to see regulators like the UK’s CMA and whatever the EU equivalent is take a look at the biggest players in the datacentre market by square foot and/or megawatts. Maybe network density too?

@benjojo ... in a patch panel pre-wired to their meet me room that you had to buy up front. Our most recent quote for a panel with six fibre pairs was only four digits long which we thought was rather pleasing compared to normal.

@benjojo our favourite was a data centre charging for a cross connect in a data centre they'd sold to someone else. Since they had no mechanism to cancel it they were unable to stop billing for it!
