Qualcomm owns Arduino, Hackaday is owned by Siemens My teenage electronics hobby landscape is now owned by the companies that would never supply datasheets to me back then

@javensbukan The Raspberry Pi people have long not inspired joy, but that's a whole thesis I could write on why I (and others) feel that way

@arch @benjojo Had to double check and uh, yeah... short version is that HaD is owned by Supplyframe, but then a few years back, Siemens bought Supplyframe: https://intelligence.supplyframe.com/siemens-accelerates-digital-marketplace-strategy-with-acquisition-of-supplyframe/

"My teenage electronics hobby landscape is now owned by the companies that would never supply datasheets to me back then" OH! YES EXACTLY!!! I can still remember the handful of kind phone-answerers who would send this teenager datasheets and sometimes SAMPLES!!!! And the opposite for those mean tightwads.

@benjojo it is painfully funny how often this happens. These companies go through phases where they realize they need outreach to students/hobbyists but their corporate structures make it hard to let students/hobbyists have access to their products so instead they do random acquisitions in the hobbyist space which doesn’t actually help much.

@benjojo And Raspberry Pi has (always had) a much too close relationship with Broadcom, one of the worst offenders... This is weird though, what does Qualcomm get out of Arduino? It's completely disjoint from their market... Sucks.
