Do/Have you used a CD/DVD/Bluray in a while?

What about burning a disk?

I'm surveying modern day awareness/usage of optical media, mostly to confirm some demographic theories, so if you know what a CD/DVD is, please help me (and maybe others) out by answering some ~10 questions here:

https://optical-media-survey.benjojo.co.uk/

And then please boost for better visibility! Thank you!

@benjojo thanks for this survey, I'm curious about the results!

I grew up with CDs and a huge DVD collection, but then I switched to Spotify and streaming...

With changes such as Netflix locking accounts to one household (all our video streaming platforms were shared from friends or family) we started to go back to alternative means of getting our movies and tv shows

And last January we decided to drop Spotify, which was a huge change when you've used it exclusively for the past 10-15 years... I had to buy an external CD reader, find a good ripper and tagger for Linux, and we started to digitalize our collection. We've also been enjoying our library's huge CD collection!

@benjojo I've seen how-to informative posts for younger audiences about how to leave Spotify, how to rip CDs, how it's legal in most countries, etc! So hopefully some people will go back to that, but it's hard to say.

I've also heard that for some hardcore music fans, they still buy a lot of CDs because they know that pre-sales are good for artists.

Side note, but I was surprised to discover how using Spotify had trained my mind, in the way that I would regularly subconsciously decide to listen to a particular song or artist to show my support / increase their numbers. Now that me listening or not to a song on repeat has zero effect on anything it feels so different... That was scary to realize. Also rediscovering the joy of listened to albums from beginning to end, which I had completely stopped doing on Spotify!

@benjojo
I still use blueray and M-disc (not many blanks left, sadly) for burn and forget it backups. I don't really want to be babysitting a NAS or RAID at home. And I'm not a big fan of "the cloud". Yes I'm old lol

Also the radio in my car plays MP3 CD's so burn a bunch of CD's or a podcast to a cheap CDR and use that as disposable storage.

I also have more DVD movies then I can watch in a lifetime from friends giving away their collections or stuff I got at flea markets.
