@benjojo 2nd one isn't cursed, that's heavenly. that's just my dream right there.
iirc 3rd one isn't actually USB ports but just using USB as a cheap connector and actually carrys PCIe 1x for crypto miners.

@deneb @benjojo A similar contraption: ECS PF88 Extreme Hybrid Mainboard. LGA775 (Intel) and DDR2 slots on the motherboard; socket 939 (AMD) and DDR1 slots on the daughterboard.

@bencc ah yes, like when PCB "auto route" gets drunk ( http://www.orangepi.org/html/hardWare/computerAndMicrocontrollers/details/Orange-Pi-PC-2.html )

@bencc@morehammer.uk @benjojo@benjojo.co.uk That actually looks pretty cool and makes me why wonder why those super modern extravagant motherboards that care a lot about looks with all their RGBs and stuff don't do something like this.

Hardware designer: So you told us that to support USB, we have to add 127 USB devices... Product manager: What? Wait, no. That's not what I... Hardware designer: Sorry, 20 ports is all I could do given the power constraints. I am going to bed now.

@benjojo I wish I could find a picture of the marine industrial board I saw a while back. the top half of it looked like a regular ATX board (CPU, RAM, 24-pin power, USB, PS/2, Ethernet, etc.) but the bottom half was completely covered in IDC connectors. except they weren't for IDE hard disks, they were for literally hundreds of channels of canbus.

@benjojo Not as cursed as the others, but I guess the AMD 4700S desktop kit qualifies too? In case you haven't heard about it, it was a budget-oriented desktop motherboard with soldered on 8/16 GB of RAM and a Zen 2-based CPU... which was the same one found in a PS5, but with a disabled iGPU That's not the most cursed bit, however: in order to make up for the lack of an iGPU, the board had a *single* PCIe x16 slot... but it was connected internally to just *four* lanes running at *Gen 2* speed

@benjojo 2nd one is too real, motherboard vendors seems to really love putting a ton of USB ports for the back.

@benjojo is this cursed enough? it looks like it's sawn in two pieces stacked on top of each other. Seen in the National Museum of Schotland. Still unsure if it actually does anything or that the robot really is controlled by a modern Arduino or Pi.

@benjojo: gaze with teary eyes upon what our crypto obsession has wrought. These monstrosities (1 and 3) ought not exist and we should consider carefully why the second is as cursed to us as the 1st and 3rd.
