I opened bluesky to post something for a event account (so the account doesn't follow anything) and wow, the default timeline is basically the inverted results of X/twitter.

As a friend put it, at least the arguments on fedi are mostly pointless, this is ikcy

@benjojo I don't think I've ever looked at the discover timeline…

This may be the biggest disjoint between the user base as I experience it and the company. Everyone seems to hate the discover timeline or more specifically the discover timeline users. Everyone's constantly complaining about people who don't know them or have the context to make sense of their statements finding their posts through the discover feed and replying inanely, or not understanding a joke is a joke

@mcc The problem is that my mum/dad are the kind of people who will use the discover timeline, I don't see how them seeing shit like "deport people" helps anyone, left or right politics etc.

@benjojo fwiw when you switch to the following timeline you're getting pretty much the same thing you get here.

(but it's true, with the size of the network comes the need to filter out the trash.)

I don't want to get on a high horse, but this is not the case for me, as I don't run mastodon etc, My client/interface is free of this kinda stuff

I was just surprised that given that X is pretty grim to open, I basically got the same thing (but on a different axis) on bsky.

@benjojo i guess i was unclear: when you switch from the discovery timeline to the following timeline in bluesky, you're getting the same type of view as you get in the fediverse: time-ordered list of the messages sent by the people you follow.

@mawhrin oh right. But the point I made on the original post is that it was a event account that followed no one, because it's announcements only, so that is all I got shown!
